Housing & Commuting
Local Accomodations
Housing in Philadelphia provides an array of options for participants. From upscale hotels and hip boutiques to cozy B&Bs and Airbnb stays, participants can find accommodations to satisfy their needs and budgets. Check online and Visit Philly’s hotel offers. The City of Brotherly Love Summer Institute does not endorse any housing plans or hotel accommodations, but Philadelphia offers a great deal.
On-Campus
During the program, participants have the option of staying at Morgan Hall (1601 N. Broad Street) on the Temple University campus, which will accommodate one person per room and two individuals per suite, which are joined in the center with a common living room and full kitchen, all of which are handicapped accessible.
Each participant will have their own bathroom and access to a common lounge area and WIFI. The dorm is the most affordable option in the area, offering housing for around $76 per person and a one-time fee of $50 for WIFI access that works across the campus. Spouses and children of participants can be accommodated.
There are numerous dining options, including food trucks and restaurants, around campus and within a five-minute radius of the dorm, including a grocery store and pharmacy, where participants can eat, obtain supplies for their stay, and accommodate any special dietary or health needs.
If the on-campus housing doesn’t meet your needs, we will help you explore other options nearby. Participants can stay at local hotels, Airbnb rentals, or with family or friends. But for your comfort and convenience — and to build a sense of community at the institute — we encourage summer scholars coming from out of town to stay on campus.
Commuting
Morgan Hall dorms can be easily accessed by SEPTA, Philadelphia’s public transportation system. Some of the public transportation options include the
bus, using the No. 4 or No. 16, which run north and south along Broad Street, or the No. 3, which runs east and west along Cecil B. Moore Avenue between 33rd Street and the Frankford Transportation Center;
subway, using the Broad Street Line (also known as the Orange Line due to the color of the cars) and exiting at the Cecil B. Moore station; and
regional rail, taking it to the Temple University station, which is located at 10th and Berks streets, or the North Broad Street station, which is located at Broad Street and West Huntingdon Street.
You can also use Amtrak to access the Main Campus at the North Philadelphia station, located at Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue.
